The streets will be almost deserted except for a few cars and stray dogs. Sadly along with the golden tans and vacation snaps those dogs are part of the legacy of Feragosto.
This billboard has been appearing around town and can be translated as:
You have the choice?
Are you humane or inhumane.
Leave him with a relative. Leave him with a friend.
Leave him with a keeper. Leave him at a kennel.
But don't leave him in the street. Think about it!
It is a criminal offence to abandon an animal.
To me it says a great deal about people here and none of it particularly good.

OMG, I want the dog on that billboard so much! I am not a little dog person, but that character is adorable and feisty without being a yapper (yes I can tell) and I need to adopt him now. I hope in real life he has a wonderful home.
oh geeze, i can't even imagine such a thing. that little jack russell looks quite a lot like my little billy who, despite his stout and brave little heart, would be terrified if abandoned on the streets.
we've just come back from jamaica where there are quite a few dogs with few homes. the culture is entirely different there in so many ways. i delighted in sharing the fact that we sleep with our dogs with the jamaica people.
the response was always an incredulous stare, then a hesitant laugh, and then "are you joking?" such fun.
but just dumping them out of the house to fend for themselves?? crimifuckinitly, what kind of heartless ass could do that??
