The Reese Report

Most of his adult life Reese has lived with this strange skin condition that keeps returning - its never been properly diagnosed just treat so its under control. When it flares up - as it did last week - and there's a spot he can reach he'll chew or scratch it until it bleeds and of course spreads. He really did a number on his right flank in the past two days - so this morning off to Dr Benvenuti we went. I carried Mr Reese the 8 blocks to the vet's with a stop along the way to be petted by two older women - that's Reese they petted not me. A few shots, three pills - that now makes 5 pills he's taking each day, I tell you it is like looking after an old relative - and an Elizabethan collar things should get better.

The shots he tolerates and since the pills are served in a piece of poached chicken they are fine but the collar.... what the hell is that about? The look he gave poor Walter, the vet's assistant, as he put it on him was enough to damn the poor man for eternity. He is now walking around the house bumping into things and most upset that he can't burrow into his blankets the way he normally does. I, of course, feel like the absolute worst dog owner in the world and picking up on this he is doing everything he can to make me feel worse. No kisses for me tonight!

Just start telling Reese that no sacrifice it too great for fashion. Poor little guy, thought it could be worse. Try living with a cat that has one of those things on. Just trust me on this one.

ohno! Poor little man! But you ARE, actually, the best dog daddies in the world -- better an unstylish collar than raw bleeding skin, right? Not so bad when you look at it that way, eh Reese? Why can't they understand it's for their own good? good thoughts to Mr. Reese.

EG: I'll trust you on that one - for some reason I am hearing howels of protest. Am I right? At least Reese only does the pathetic puppy routine.

Cowbell:How's your patient coming along? I hope the potato soup has given the Bohemian strength and the TLC we all know she's getting from her family is restoring her health. Give her a hug from from all of us here.

Poor Walter! And yes, I know that look real well. Hope he heals up quickly the poor little dear has had quite the time of it here of late. But perhaps the poached chicken will make up for the indignity of the situation.

Actually, Willym, it isn't so much the howls of protest as having all the skin on your arms ripped off. I've only ever had one cat that was good about medications and other such things. And it is not, NOT, Miss Alice.

Poor Reesie, and poor daddy. My pup hates those collars, and also has the same skin issues from time to time. I'm told it is allergies, but known have been diagnosed.

Doralong: Poached chicken makes up for a multitude of indignities in our household.

EG: Forgot about the claws... note to self: reconsider getting a cat.

Tater: Yes we've been told it was the allergy thing though we're really not sure what he's allergic to and it would cost Euro 500 to find out and at 15?????

I'm very sorry for poor itchy Reese.

When our dog had his manhood removed, we saved the "dude, DO NOT lick that suture!" collar. We turned it into a ceremonial headress. It has been adorened with beads and things and one special occasions we wear it.

We're sick.

Lorraine: "sick" hmmm define "sick" I prefer the word "creative" and frankly it sounds almost Byzantine!

Actually, now that you mention it, the look is something Theodora might have appreciated.

oh poor sweet baby! and you, poor sweet baby. and quickly, how delightful to hear your voice. but poor reesie!!!!

bill wore one of those when he was little and his ears folded over like the flap of an envelope. it was dreadful and he hated it and he was just a puppy. i attribute that time in his life to much of his feistiness and refusal to tolerate any nonsense.

i hope he's quickly on the mend so he can remove the offending atrocity. poor little puppy.
