Mercoledi Musicale

I know that yesterday was Shrove Tuesday or Mardi Gras and today starts the 40 days of Lent. And I know that many pleasures of life should be fore sworn this time of year. And I know Zydeco would have been more appropriate earlier in the week. But, and you knew there was a "but" coming, when Michael Doucet and BeauSoleil start playing its a good time for everyone to dance no matter what the season.

My own introduction to Zydeco came from one of the old timers Queen Ida and the Bon Temps Band.

Come on now a little toe tapping won't hurt to ease our way into Lent - you can't just go cold turkey.

And mille grazie to my own dear Dora for reminding me how cool Zydeco can be.

A little Zydeco on Ash Wednesday is a good thing. I just remember the misery that was Lent in my childhood. It's amazing the way the Catholics could think of ways to dress up misery as religious devotion.

You know my sisters family is big into the fiddle music. If you go to youtube and put in voetberg family you can see some great fiddle music. Look for bricemarie's channel...better than strolling down memory lane's channel..they are all real good tho. I can say that cuz they are my nieces and nephews.

I know this will sound "young and ignorant", but I am grateful that I was of the generation who does not know what ash wednesday and lent means. I know now, as an adult, but I just don't care. And whu should we. Lent has much less commerciable value than Easter which has become a reason to feast on chocolate thanks to our media and consumption based society. I mean, seriously, how can you "sell" lent to kids? What is the promotable product during Lent? Nothing.

But don't worry Will, despite my being part of a wasted generation, I can appreciate the music clips you provided. hehehe :o)

I discovered Zydeco on my one and only trip to New Orleans with a boyfriend who was from there. Whenever I hear it, it takes me away a little bit.
