I've always been proud of being a Canadian. This morning, at Rideau Hall in Ottawa, our black, straight, Haitian-born, female Governor-General, Madame Michaëlle Jean, will be investing a white, gay, New Brunswick-born, male clergyman, the Reverend Brent Hawkes, with our highest civilian award, the Order of Canada, for his contribution to the community and his activism on behalf of gay rights and same-sex marriage. Now that's diversity.
Today I'm feeling extra proud!

Not surprisingly, I think you have more reasons to be proud of being Canadian, than I have living south of you. Honestly, I'm ready to go for repatriation and move back to the old country. What's Toronto like?
Just when I think I can blame America's stupidity on our youth as a country, kid brother goes and does something like this. (head hang of shame)
Y'all should feel proud. You are teaching by example and that is the most powerful kind of life lesson. Hi! I'm feeling deep and broody. When you move back to BC will you let me come up for visits? I'm only a ferry ride away...
EG: You and both know that you have many reasons to be proud to be an American but Toronto would be nice though Montreal would be better. Explore those French roots!
Hat: Wish you could come and visit here in Rome - we get that deep and broody out of you. Or a least losts of good food and wine into you which should get that deep and broody out of you. And who knows maybe even get you la... Never mind.
Well done to Madame Michaëlle Jean and to the Reverend Hawkes- may we learn by example.
Canada is far ahead of us with the gay issues..I would move there...but I hate the cold. And I have a job, Oh I need to find a girlfriend too.
Doralong: We've had two pervious female GGs; the last one was a well-known Canadian journalist who immigrated to Canada from China with her family. Madame Clarkson restored the Vice-Regal position to prominence during her 8 year tenure and restablished the position as Head of State; no mean feat given that the politicians fought her every inch of the way.
Sageweb: I think we could find you a nice Canadian girl to keep you warm. The job? That may be harder.
You'd think that shit would rub off, eh? If only ...
If McCain takes the White House, I swear, one of my Canadian friends is so doing a contract marriage with me. I'm not above groveling.
