Mercoledi Musciale

Yesterday there wasn't a single bar or for that matter shop that didn't have the World Cub game on the TV. Unfortunately it was a one-one tie between Italy and Paraguay!!! The boys are going to have to do better than that. So here to encourage them on are the Vienna Choir Boys hymning "Fortuna" and the gods of chance!

My friend Cathy sent me that one and my friend Robert sent along this rather cool schedule and score Calender for anyone who wants to keep up to date on who's doing what with whom!

Yes - we were a bit miffed that the only good restaurant in Tarvisio had withdrawn the tables outside - where the previous evening we'd sat and watched a terrific thunderstorm under cover - and stuck us up on a dais among bad art while friends and family watched Italy v Paraguay to the accompaniment of very muted roaring and - che orrore - smoking, even from the padrona.

Every time we subsequently sat in a bar or restaurant carefully out of sight of the telly, we'd know matches were being watched from that hornet-like drone from the crowds.

Trieste is a great city, just as Jan Morris and you said it was. And the Corderie breakfasts are unsurpassable, the staff utterly charming.

More of all this eventually - when I upload a few pics - Over There.
