Last week as I was heading out to the Castelli region and Nemi (that is a panorama shot of this charming little town, the strawberry capital of the district) with my friend Marco we were making idle chat in the car as he maneuvered through the Roman traffic.
Marco: Will, I must tell you a thing.
Me: (Hmmm.... eyebrows raised; that doesn't sound good) ??????
Marco: Your blog!
Me: Yes? I haven't been writing much lately.
Marco: Its become boring you know? All about opera and ballet. Not the way it use to be. You use to write interesting things.
Me: (Trying not to be offended) Well I haven't been writing much lately.
Marco: I find Laurent's blog is more interesting.
Me: (Now really trying not to be offended) Well I haven't been writing much lately. Oh look there's another quaint hill town!
Having been through the same sort of conversation with my friend Jolka at coffee break a few days before - except that one ended with me saying: Oh look here comes our cappuccini! - I got to thinking. They were both right - I haven't been putting up much of interest lately. And the reasons are many and not worth or worthy of repeating.
Its not that I haven't been doing things: a weekend in Palmero last month, a quick trip to Napoli, I seem to be going up to Milano once a month these days, some interesting walks around Roma, excursions outside the city, some food treats and of course the Hounds from Hell. And, sorry Marco, some opera, ballet and concerts.
Nemi is definitely the strawberry capital of the region and just in case you doubt it every trattoria and bar features strawberries: with lemon, with gelato, as a dolci or if it isn't strawberries its frutti di bosco (small field strawberries). Marco insists the Bar delle Fragole has the best tarts - and I'm not going to argue with him. Neither did the gang at work when I showed up with a parcel of these little treats on Monday morning.
So its time to do one of two things - either close down the blog ... or get off my ass and get back to posting regularly. I decided to see if I could go with option two. Maybe complete a few of those posts that have been sitting around almost finished and maybe a few new things. And we'll see how it goes.

Blog away! Your pictures are always wonderful to behold, and your words are thoughts to ponder...
I got strawberries myself today!
Was getting a bit worried about not seeing you around. Reading you is never boring...and I've got nothing against opera and ballet of course ;)
uh....welcome back and good..ha
Don't let a little blogger's block stop you!..I don't.
Some days diamonds,some days rocks.
No option, Will. Just get on with it. But - golden rule - just don't feel obliged to do it if you don't feel like it. Absence may make the heart grow fonder.
And only do what you want, not what you think others want. Never need to cite the blogger's other golden rule: enthuse, be kind and if you really want to moan, keep it to yourself (a rule I don't always follow myself, alas).
Oh that looks so yummy!
I am glad that you are going to continue blogging. What would us HFH fans do? However, everyone needs a break. Even JoeMyGod took a sabbatical and thank goodness he returned. But don't feel obliged to feed us lazy ones who don't blog themselves and don't realize how much time and effort it takes. Although I would miss you excellent English and turn of phrase. Hears hoping and happy blogging. Uncle Pervy.
