Lunedi Lunacy

Christmastide just wouldn't be Christmastide without a visit with our favourite Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppets - well okay the field isn't exactly flooded with Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppets to rank but you know what I mean.  Here they are with their own particular warped version of a well-known Christmas yarn.  - warped? yarn? ... get it?   They're made of wool and .....oh forget it! Bah humbug!

Bah humbug! Bah humbug!

Lunedi Lunacy

I know that Advent is over and we are now into the 7th day of Christmas which probably should mean something about swans-a-swimming but I hadn't realized that those two wild Scottish Socks over at the Scottish Sock Puppet Theatre  had posted an Advent calendar. But like many of us they got a bit preoccupied with the run up to the big feast day so they decided to do one big catch-up video with I might say typical results.

And not matter what the season I find these two wooly soacks can always raise a laugh.  A left click on the link will take you to a very touching poem about soacks in proper Ayrshire.

Lunedi Lunacy

My two favourite Scottish socks are visiting Venice; not sure why or to what end but there they are amongst the Gondolieri and wandering the campielli of one of my favourite cities in all of Italy.

A Winter Warning

Back in 2006 Italy had the dubious distinction of leading Europe in the number of deaths caused by people driving under the influence. This led to the introduction of zero tolerance and a change in the statistics and a decrease in DUI related accidents. Recently a friend sent me a very powerful Australian public service announcement that was brutal in its honesty about the results of drunk driving; our friends at the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre do it in a more light-hearted manner but the message is the same.

I don't think anything more need be said.

The Music of the Holidays

I must admit after almost a week and a half of the various Christmas albums (we have 48 at last count - everything from Medieval to Ella) on random play I am starting to feel the way I did the year we spent Christmas in Vietnam. Okay that calls for a bit of an explanation: from Saigon to Sapa, in every bloody hotel lobby we had Celine Dion (Canada's gift to music?????) destroying "Oh Holy Night" in the David Foster over arrangement. I offered one Hotel Manager money to take it off - he accepted and we got Celine Dion singing "Silent Night" in a David Foster over arrangement.

Here is one of my favourite theatre troupes - the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre doing Gruber's immortal carol and bringing our attention to a slight problem in the traditional English translation.

Once again this year they have nailed it - to the wall!

Lunedi Lunacy

This version of the 12 Days of Christmas has no hidden meanings!

And keeping the Nativity front and centre the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre give a touching rendition of an old favorite.

Lunedi Lunacy

They say a good thing is worth repeating and I find the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre a good thing - in small doses. So here's another familiar Christmas Carol given their distinctive treatment.

I am reminded of the words we sang at Acolyte Epiphany parties to the tune of Hark the Herald Angels Sing:
Hark the herald angels sing
Beecham's pills are just the thing
Move ye gently, move ye mild
Two for an adult ten for a child
Regular administration
just the thing for constipation.
Hark the herald angels sing
Beecham's pills are just the thing.
Not to be confused with:
Hark the herald angels sing
Wallis Simpson pinched our King.
She's been married once before
Now she's knocking on Eddie's door.
God, such wit - well okay maybe half-wit!

Christmasy Things - Sort Of .....

Here's a little antidote to the great slice of plum pudding with lashings of custard sauce and brandy I had at lunch yesterday. A touch of British humour from Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre.
