No I don't have a ladies underwear fetish and this is not a pathetic attempt to boost hits. These are New Year's window displays in an underwear specialty shop along Via Nazionale. But many regular clothing stores here featured displays of Scarlet nether apparel for your New Year's needs. And apparently if you want good luck in the New Year there will be a definite need.
You wonder about traditions sometimes don't you? And just where and when the hell did wearing red underwear for luck New Year's Eve begin here in Italy. And its not just women - men too, keeping in mind that this is the country that sells more men's cosmetics than any place else in the world.
Two Venezuelan friends tell me that in Caracas its yellow underwear that brings you luck at New Year's. Now that I can understand (?) but RED?01 gennaio - Maria Madre di Dio*
