Lunedi Lunacy

According to a recent survey our good cousins to the South consume approximately $2,000,000.00 USD worth of chocolate at Eastertide.  I could find no statistics for Canada but I wouldn't be surprised to find that we are not far behind.   So where does all this chocolate come from?  Well these days I'd think mostly China but back in the 1930s Walt Disney had another idea.  So sit back, gnaw away on that chocolate bunny (apparently the proper way is to eat him ears first) and enjoy the way Easter eggs use to be made:

Buona Pasqua

When we gather at Simonetta and Renato's this afternoon for Easter pranzo the table decorations will include a traditional marzipan lamb from Sicilia - much like the one in the header above. Laurent won't be with us to celebrate - he's in Montreal helping with family things this week - but the Easter Bunny did find him a bit earlier this week and left this:Yes - somewhere in amongst all that orange wrapping and ribbon is a large chocolate Easter egg.

All part of Easter traditions here - and another tradition that will be observed is to raise our glasses to friends and loved ones absent. Here's to you!

I'm not saying that this is a country of excess but.. underneath all the wrapping, silk flowers and butterflies are gigantic chocolate Easter Eggs. And yes, people do buy them!
