Lunedi Lunacy

Christmastide has always been a time for laughter and when it comes to laughter Bizarro has poked a good bit of fun at the traditions of the Holiday Season.

The Lead Up:

The Big Day Itself:

The Aftermath:

December 29 - The Irish Free State is replaced by a new state called Ireland with the adoption of a new constitution.

Lunedi Lunacy

My friend Vicki sent this along to brighten up the holidays - and perhaps as a jab at my dietary restrictions? But its true isn't it? The first thing we say to people now when we invite them for a meal is: Is there anything you can't eat?

Sandy and Richard Riccardi are a cabaret act from Santa Rosa whose upcoming calendar include dates in California, North Caroline and New York City! They refer to their act as being "Tastefully Raunchy" - I just think its funny.

And this one is dedicated to Vicki and the cats in her life: Oh Christmas Tree - from the cat's perspective.

December 16 - 1826: Benjamin W. Edwards rides into Mexican controlled Nacogdoches, Texas and declares himself ruler of the Republic of Fredonia.

Perhaps this is not safe for work - Aunt Chippy is not known for her restraint - or it would appear her gift wrapping skills.

And a Joy to Your World Too!

Thanks to my friend Linda for this one.

December 9 - 1960: The first episode of Coronation Street, the world's longest-running television soap opera, is broadcast in the United Kingdom.

Lunedi Lunacy

I know that Advent is over and we are now into the 7th day of Christmas which probably should mean something about swans-a-swimming but I hadn't realized that those two wild Scottish Socks over at the Scottish Sock Puppet Theatre  had posted an Advent calendar. But like many of us they got a bit preoccupied with the run up to the big feast day so they decided to do one big catch-up video with I might say typical results.

And not matter what the season I find these two wooly soacks can always raise a laugh.  A left click on the link will take you to a very touching poem about soacks in proper Ayrshire.

To All My Left-wing and Liberal Friends:
Please accept with no obligation, implied or explicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the summer/winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2012, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make Canada a great nation. Not to imply that this country is necessarily greater than any other country in the world. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

To My Right-wing Friends:
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

With thanks to Vicki for the initial wish - I am assuming she considers me right-wing?????

The Music of the Holidays

I must admit after almost a week and a half of the various Christmas albums (we have 48 at last count - everything from Medieval to Ella) on random play I am starting to feel the way I did the year we spent Christmas in Vietnam. Okay that calls for a bit of an explanation: from Saigon to Sapa, in every bloody hotel lobby we had Celine Dion (Canada's gift to music?????) destroying "Oh Holy Night" in the David Foster over arrangement. I offered one Hotel Manager money to take it off - he accepted and we got Celine Dion singing "Silent Night" in a David Foster over arrangement.

Here is one of my favourite theatre troupes - the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre doing Gruber's immortal carol and bringing our attention to a slight problem in the traditional English translation.

Once again this year they have nailed it - to the wall!

This version of the 12 Days of Christmas has no hidden meanings!

And keeping the Nativity front and centre the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre give a touching rendition of an old favorite.

A Dog's Christmas

Sadly I think the Hounds from Hell would eat the cookies and probably try and lick the fat guy in red to death!

With thanks to my friend BonBon Jamiefils
